MI01 - Bosco Fontana

Itinerary connecting the Mincio cycle path and the Bosco Fontana Natural Reserve; the reserve is what remains of the ancient forests that once upon a time used to stretch over the entire Po plain. Given its historic and natural importance, this reserve was awarded the Biogenetic Natural Reserve status in 1976. Almost at the centre of the forest there is a XVII century palazzina, commissioned by Vincenzo I Duke of Mantua, when the forest was a Gonzaga hunting reserve. A spring is located not far from the castle and gives this wood its name: the "Fontana" has been a known landmark since the XII century.

The natural reserve may not be accessed on bicycles.
