In the historic centre of Gazzuolo we can admire the Gonzaga arcades which Ludovico Gonzaga had built at the beginning of the Sixteenth century. It is composed of thirty arches supported by twenty-nine columns, each different from the other in terms of architecture and decorations; under the arcades we find the Paolo Giacometti Theatre, which is currently home to the Municipal “Aldo Placchi” library. The Church of Saint Mary Nascent dates back to the XVII century and is in Baroque style. Inside it has one single nave with seven side chapels and a large presbytery; the Oratory of Saint Rocco is also in Baroque style and dates back to the beginning of the Seventeenth century. One of the curiosities is the “Preda Pescadura”, the only testimony remaining of the glorious fortifications of the Gonzaga’s demolished in the XVIII century.
Along the road to Belforte we come to the church of Saint Peter, pantheon of the Gonzaga family, where some descendants of the younger branch lie in rest.
